The Centre for Scientific Monitoring of Species Diversity and Habitats in Central Europe is under construction.
It must not happen again that in Germany a large proportion of the fauna dies out locally without it being noticed. New sensor-based technologies are developed in the AMMOD project. Genetic markers for monitoring are compiled by the GBOL project. A new professorship will expand this field of research.
Since 1990, the number of insects and birds in Central Europe has fallen sharply. This has been proven by individual investigations. However, a national, broad-based monitoring programme does not yet exist. The Koenig Research Museum, on the other hand, has already developed technical methods for efficient long-term observation of biodiversity.

In cooperation with the University of Bonn, the ZFMK establishes the first professorship for Biodiversity Monitoring.
