Object of research:

Description

The New World parrots (Psittaciformes: Psittacidae: Arinae) are a species-rich monophyletic subfamily of parrots that can be found at almost all altitudes in the Neotropic. In this project, we aim to understand the morphological variation and its potential influence on the distribution of 26 species of Neotropical parrots along an elevation gradient in the Manú National Park in southern Peru. By studying specimens in bird collections, we aim to correlate the occurrence of specific structural changes and feeding habits between different habitat preferences. Finally, our goal is to comprehend aspects of evolutionary diversification of these parrots during their spread over the continent.
