Project title:
Incorporation of chloroplasts in Sacoglossa
ZFMK Project lead:
Object of research:
Snails and Slugs

Description

Some sea slugs (members of the Sacoglossa) incorporate chloroplasts from their algal food in their own body and perform photosynthesis with these „kleptoplastids“. They survive weeks to months without any further food uptake. We investigate this chloroplast incorporatation into the cells of the digestive gland with histological and ultrastructural methods, as well as fluorescence markers
