Use of environment, activity and food ecology of Bothrops jararacussu (Serpentes: Viperidae: Crotalinae) [23]

Bothrops jararacussu is the largest species within the genus Bothrops and one of which has the venom more toxic to humans. Its distribution covers Argentina, Bolivia, Paraguay and four Brazilian states: Rio Grande do Sul, Minas Gerais and Bahia. According to the Official List of Fauna Species Endangered by the State of Bahia, Brazil, this species is endangered. For this species, little information is known about activity, environment use, feeding ecology and standard displacement under natural conditions.

Herpetofauna of the Estação Ecológica Estadual Wenceslau Guimarães, S Bahia, Brazil [25]

The objective of this work is to provide a commented list on the herpetofauna of Estação Ecológica Estadual Wenceslau Guimarães, municipality of Wenceslau Guimarães, southern Bahia, Brazil. This Conservation Unit is located in the Central Corridor of the Atlantic Forest and has an area of 2,418 hectares.

Amphibian diversity patterns along an altitudinal gradient at the Wenceslau Guimarães State Ecological Station, Southern Bahia, Brazil

Climatic conditions in altitudinal gradients directly affect local biota and influence the richness and abundance of species, generating patterns of distribution proportional to what the environment favors. Each organism responds differently to environmental variations and amphibians are considered as the group of animals most sensitive to these changes. Studies such as this are necessary to identify the distribution of amphibians in altitudinal gradients in the South of Bahia, helping in the conservation of this group, especially in poorly sampled regions. This research investigates whether in the Estação Ecológica Estadual Wenceslau Guimarães there is a variation in the structure of the amphibian community along an altitudinal gradient, distributed in 500, 600, 700, and 800 meters elevations in relation to sea level. The main objectives are: (i) to evaluate the relationship between the wealth and abundance of the anurofauna with the altitude in the different altitudinal levels; (ii) to identify environmental variables that associate with richness along the altitudinal gradient. In addition, it is intended (iii) to carry out a herpetofaunistic inventory of this area.
Key words: amphibians, community structure, altitudinal gradient, diversity, Atlantic forest.
