Abstract:

In recent years, increased focus has been put on the study of alpine ecosystems in high latitudes. Still there is an immense lack of knowledge regarding their faunistic characteristics. The present study analyses diversity patterns of ground beetles (Carabidae) across an elevational transect in the continental area of central Norway and aims to describe these patterns across a meso-scale elevational gradient. Data was standardized and analyzed using standard statistical procedures as well as multivariate statistics. Results along the elevational gradient support current theories on species–altitude relationships. Based on these findings, future possibilities for research approaches are shortly explored.
