Beschreibung

This project is a collaboration together with Dr. Keith Willmott, Dr. Akito Kawahara and Dr. Jacqueline Miller at the Florida Museum of Natural History, as well as Andre Freitas at the University of Campinas, Brazil.  Several studies have shown that the current classification of this group delimitated by Walter Forster in 1964 is problematic and at least half of the around 40 genera are non-monophyletic. To stabilize the higher-level classification we are inferring a backbone phylogeny for the group based on 360 loci and then we add five loci for as many as possible of the remaining ~400 species. This phylogeny will then be used for systematics and to study the spatiotemporal diversification of the group.
