Research interests
My main interests focus on the linkage of ecology and biogeography of birds. Methodically, I use ecological niche models to entangle factors that gave birth to the distributional patterns of this fascinating group. Permanent improvement and testing of techniques is essential when applying new macroecological methods.
Projects span a wide range of fields from invasive species to the evolution of migration and include projections into the future and the past. In particular, I am interested in the ecology, biogeography and evolution of tropical savannah species. Some of them are under severe threat adding conservational issues to my research fields. Thus, my main study species are granivorous passerines, especially estrildid finches and members of the neotropical genus Sporophila. My regional interests are focused on central South American grasslands and the afrotropical savannah region.
Furthermore, interests in field ornithology started when I was a teenager, and I still enjoy working on ecology and conservation of local species in my home region and beyond.
