Jan Decher is a collection-based and field mammalogist. My research focus are the zoogeography, conservation and systematics of African small mammals (rodents, bats and shrews) in the Upper Guinea region of West Africa (Senegal to Ghana). Related interests are the biodiversity and conservation of "sacred groves" in Africa and the intersection between wildlife conservation and development projects.
Long-term monitoring of tropical and temperate zone small mammal populations. Environmental impact assessments for mining and development projects in West Africa and North America.
