In the Hymenoptera section, additional to the Hymenoptera, the following collections of organisms are also curated: Heteroptera, Homoptera s.l., Orthopteroidea, Phthiraptera and Siphonaptera. At present the collection includes ca. 160,000 individuals of ca. 15,500 taxa. The section house collections (or parts of it) of Wilhelm Aerts, Dietrich Bornhalm, Johannes Gallasch, Sigfrid Ingrisch, A. Jacobi, Heinrich Klockenhoff, Richard Meinertzhagen, Rene Oberthür, August Reichensperger, R. Roesler, A. Schoop, Josef Szijj and in addition those of the Zoo Cologne and of the former Fuhlrott Museum Wuppertal.
Within the daily curatorial workflow priority is given to the digitization of the collection at the specimen level. Local systematical and geographical thesauri
are already established. The retro-active data capture for Orthoptera, Homoptera s.l. and parts of the Hymenoptera collection are largely completed. Data are available online via
the
BIOCASE (Biological Collection Access Service for Europe)
- and
GBIF (Global Biodiversity Information Facility)
-portals.
